Day 5 unleashes the event more than half of Manipal has been waiting for. Lose yourself to this evening as vocalists, drummers, guitarists, bassists and other instrumentalists come together to weave magic. Crescendo brings to you the ultimate band event, Battle of the Bands.
Event 5: BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOB) (Band event)
Date: 24 February ’17
Venue : AB-1 Quadrangle
Each band will be alloted 9 minutes (including setup time) in Pre-Revels, and 18 minutes (including setup time) in Revels.
EVENT TIME:
· Pre-revels : 3-4 hours
· Revels : 3-4 hours
RULES:
– A minimum of two different instruments should be used in the live act.
– Number of members per band – minimum 3, maximum 6.
– Only the drummer and the bassist can play the same instrument in two different bands. Participation of vocalists and other instrumentalists is restricted to one band only.
– In case of any technical fault, timers shall be reset and the band will be allowed to perform from the beginning.
– The decision of the judges and organizers will be final and binding.
– Set Listing (only for Revels) : Bands are encouraged to play their original compositions however they can play covers too. Their set list should however include at least one original composition
– If a band decides to play only original compositions, they would be given 10% extra boost in the score.
– In case of an original composition, the band has to give THREE sets of lyrics to the organizers. Lyrics will be checked for vulgarity and profanity.
– Any names or places mentioned by a band member on stage can lead to disqualification. Only names of the songs being sung, and the original band name can be mentioned.
– Any pre-recorded music or sound would lead to disqualification of the band.
– Failing to stick to the time limit will lead to deduction of scores.
NOTE – For a band to count as an ‘outside’ band for entry into Revels ’17 on the basis of a screening, at least 75% of the members have to be students from colleges other than Manipal Institute of Technology.
– Bands planning to compete in Revels ’17 have to send a good quality demo/link to performances/Soundcloud pages/Youtube links/similar to the following in an email with subject – ‘Battle of the Bands Entry – <BANDNAME>’ at mafiaclub.mit@gmail.com (The official e-mail id of The Music and Fine Arts Club, MIT)
LOGISTICS:
· 6 microphones with stands
· 6 floor monitors
· Two guitar amps (Marshall)
· One bass amp (Hartke)
· One keyboard amp (Roland)
· One/Two cordless microphone(s) for emcee
· Heavy duty output speakers system for the quadrangle (mention this to renter, he’ll
understand)
· Full Sound System complete with a mixer with 32 channels
· One SET of drum mics (in addition to the 6 microphones)
· 5 Piece Drum Kit with Cymbals (Ride + Crash + Hi-Hats), Stands, Drum throne
and Drum Pedal, Drum mat/carpet.
· Full Fledged lighting system at Quadrangle
(Note : Drum kit for Battle of the Bands
needs to be taken from the sound renter/external source – as a good quality drum kit is an absolute must for this event)
